The Flexstar Network Power Margin card (NPM) is a programmable DC-to-DC converter that provides two programmable voltage channels and two fixed voltage channels. The NPM is operated through a standard RS-232 serial port and can be daisy chained to additional modules via a RS-485 party line network. Also included is voltage and current monitoring for each of the programmable channels and “snapshot”current sampling of up to 2048 samples (both channels).
The two programmable channels consist of a 5V nominal channel, which can be programmed from 0V to 7.5V in 2-millivolt increments, and a 12V nominal channel, which can be programmed from 0V to 15V in 4-millivolt increments. Each programmable channel can supply up to 3.5 amps continuous.
A fixed 5V is also available to power a SBC motherboard. This channel can supply up to 8 amps continuous. Also present is a fixed 12V output that is rated at 1 amp continuous.
Product Specifications
Input Power Requirement
15V to 24V DC input power.
Fixed Channel Outputs
5V +/-1% fixed output at up to 8 amps continuous.
12V +/-2% fixed output at up to 1 amp continuous.
Programmable Channel Outputs
Two programmable (5V and 12V) output voltage channels.
The Flexstar Network Power Margin II card (NPM2)
consists of a motherboard that can hold up to four
compact switching DC-to-DC converter modules
designed to provide up to four programmable voltage
outputs. Each programmable channel can be
programmed from 0V to 15V in 7.5millivolt steps. Voltage
and current measurement is built into the design and can
measure peak load currents on each margin channel up
to 5 amperes. Additionally, slew rates can be controlled
in 1-millisecond increments for applications requiring
moderate rise and fall times.
NPM2 motherboards are designed to operate stand-alone
or be cabled together to provide multiple channels of
power controlled with a single RS-232 connection to a
PC. Up to 8 NPM2 motherboards can be daisy-chained
together via an on-board RS-485 party line network. A
built-in microcontroller handles the communication,
addressing and internal voltage algorithms and
calibration. On-board memory is used for acquiring
power samples with programmable sample rates. This
provides a “snapshot” mode for capturing power profiles.
