Pegasus II is here!  The new Pegasus II SBC (single board computer) is now shipping.  Pegasus II is a FLEXSTAR-exclusive design optimized for use in storage device test systems.  Like the original Pegasus SBC, the highly-integrated Pegasus II incorporates unique features such as built-in IDE/ATA tri-state circuitry and a narrow profile to facilitate high DUT/sq. foot tester design.  A key new feature is its 64-bit, 66MHz PCI-X 2.2 compliant expansion slot.  PCI-X gives the Pegasus II the bandwidth needed to support today’s fastest interfaces and those of tomorrow at full speed.  Additional features include built-in SATA 1.0, ATA/UDMA100 and USB 2.0 controllers, plus lightning-fast gigabit Ethernet to reduce the time required for large multi-port testers to come fully on line.

   FLEXSTAR’s new Pegasus II test systems also include a brand new power margin “module,” the NPM II.  Compared to its predecessor, the NPM II has higher output, greater versatility, better read back accuracy and lower heat dissipation.  The NPM II has been designed to support FLEXSTAR’s new 2:1 and 4:1 multi-target systems in addition to our standard 1-to-1 test systems.  State-of-art high efficiency regulators that do not require large heat sinks are utilized in the design, enabling the high-density tester packaging demanded by today’s small form factor drive manufacturers. 

   Pegasus II / NPM II electronics can now be specified when ordering new FLEXSTAR test systems.  Your existing FLEXSTAR 30E, 60E and 104B test systems can also be upgraded to Pegasus II in a variety of configurations.  Please contact your FLEXSTAR sales representative for full details.  And don’t forget to ask about our new Serial-COM option while you’re at it!

   After six years of superlative service, the Pegasus SBC has reached the end of its product life.  The 810 chip set at the core of the Pegasus SBC was phased out by Intel some time ago.  Beginning in 2007, the new Pegasus II SBC will become standard on new FLEXSTAR test systems and system upgrades. 

By design the Pegasus II can be used as a field replacement for the original Pegasus SBC, it is similar in size and the mounting-hole placement is the same, but doing so requires replacement of several components in addition to the SBC itself.  This fact makes it a costly replacement.  The new state-of-the-art Pegasus II will also complete tests faster, which might create problems with tests involving oven synchronization.  We therefore recommend keeping a stock of original Pegasus SBCs on hand for replacements, especially if your FLEXSTAR Pegasus test equipment has no warranty coverage. 

FLEXSTAR still has a good-size stock of Pegasus SBCs available for sale, but we expect to run out by mid-2007 so you should act now.  Following below are product descriptions and part numbers for complete Pegasus SBC assemblies, bare (non-populated) Pegasus boards and a number of other parts specific to the original Pegasus SBC.  For further information and pricing, please contact your FLEXSTAR sales representative.
